Accounting Superintendent
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Accounting Superintendent in the Accounting and Finance Department at the Jamalco Refinery located in Halse Hall, Clarendon.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Applying technical accounting expertise to support the preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS, US GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Reviewing general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Supervising month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and accruals.
- Monitoring internal controls related to financial systems.
- Mentoring, training and developing accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborating with internal and external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanation for financial data.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information while ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting special projects such as tax filings, regulatory reporting, or the implementation of new accounting systems or standards.
Qualifications & Experience
To be considered, candidates must have:-
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; ACCA, CA or CPA certification desired.
- Eight (8) years’ experience in Accounting and Finance, including roles in public accounting and corporate finance.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory reporting and an advanced understanding of financial concepts such as debits and credits, double-entry bookkeeping and accrual accounting.
- Proven expertise with accounting systems.
- Strong analytical and leadership skills, with experience mentoring teams of accounting or finance professionals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for financial analysis.
- Experience with complex areas such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret financial reports, perform detailed financial analyses and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Good human relations skills.
- Knowledge of tax regulations, payroll processing, internal controls and audit procedures.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
