Laboratory Assistant
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Laboratory Assistant to join the Laboratory team at Jamalco in Halse Hall, Clarendon.
Reporting to the Team Coordinator/Laboratory Supervisor, the successful candidate will:
- Collect/Receive representative samples from designated sample points in process/mining areas and prepare them for analysis.
- Produce accurate, timely and reliable analytical data necessary to support quality production in the process and mining areas.
- Perform duties according to standard operating procedures to support the objective of being a total quality supplier and to maintain ISO9001:2015 certification.
- Maintain sample collection equipment and work area and perform duties according to established health, safety and environment, and housekeeping standards.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices and safety standards in assigned area.
Qualifications & Experience
To qualify you must have the following:
- High school education, with at least five passes (including English, Mathematics and a Science subject) in the G.C.E. O’ Level or CSEC examinations.
- At least one year experience in a Bayer process environment; and
- Previous experience in a laboratory environment.
- Good communication skills, computer literacy and knowledge of quality principles and tools would be assets.
- A valid driver’s license.

Materials Coordinator
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Materials Coordinators to join the Maintenance Planning team at Jamalco, located in Halse Hall, Clarendon.
Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the successful candidates will:
- Ensure proper documentation of materials is done in accordance with standard practices for use in the equipment bill of material, cost evaluation and control in the cost management process.
- Supply and control material flow, equipment and tools in the department for all planned activities through the use of effective material kitting.
- Secure materials to maximize the productivity of maintenance personnel carrying out planned and scheduled repairs to process equipment.
- Check staged materials in Stores for planned jobs to ensure that kitting conforms to reliability excellence standards of a 100% kitting ratio.
- Manage and maintain spare parts catalogue for all critical equipment to ensure that stock-outs are minimized.
Qualifications & Experience
To qualify you must have the following:
A Secondary level education or equivalent with certified passes in five subjects at the CXC/CSEC/GCE level including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject.
- A minimum of five years’ experience as a process operator or craftsperson in the electrical, instrument, civil or mechanical field in an alumina refinery or similar industry.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
