Community Relations Officer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Community Relations Officer in the Corporate Services Department at Jamalco.

Under the direction of the Corporate Communications and Public Relations Manager, this position is accountable for:

  • Building and maintaining strong and harmonious relationships between the company and stakeholders in the assigned operating communities.
  • Ensuring the peaceful resolution and prevention of company / community related conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
  • Coordinating pre-mining community education programmes in assigned areas.
  • Ensuring the efficient functioning of Jamalco Community Councils in assigned areas.
  • Ensuring the efficient management and successful implementation of Jamalco funded Projects in assigned areas.
  • Maintaining skilled and unskilled data bank and coordinating unskilled employment policy in assigned areas.

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered the incumbent must have:-

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Management Studies or Social Work;
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a people sensitive environment;
  • A track record of active social/community involvement;
  • Strong networking, project management, negotiating and conflict resolution skills;
  • Familiarity with the operations of central and local government agencies;
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Competence in desktop publishing and be computer literate;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Powerhouse Operating Technician

An opportunity has arisen for experienced and suitably qualified Operating Technician to join the Powerhouse team at the Halse Hall, Clarendon location.

Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and coordinating daily operations of the Powerhouse and making timely decisions on adverse effects that may impact on the operations and advising other departments that are likely to be affected by these decisions.
  • Tracking process variation using control charts and making corrections using set procedures and reaction plans and recording reasons for deviations.
  • Diagnosing faults and process failures in area of responsibility and reporting to the Department Supervisor the actions taken to rectify problems.
  • Providing leadership on all operating functions required to ensure uninterrupted supply of steam, power and compressed air to the refining plant.
  • Operating Power plant equipment in an orderly manner to ensure no disruptions in operations.
  • Providing guidance to Powerhouse Operators to ensure the Powerhouse Department Environment Health and Safety housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered the incumbent must have:-

  • Entry level Tertiary qualifications with certified passes at CSEC level or equivalent in a science or technical subject, English and Mathematics.
  • At least five (5) years experience in the Powerhouse Operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
